The Skoda Fabia first generation 6Y chassis was made for eight years up until 2007 and is classed as a supermini offered in hatchback, estate and saloon versions. Available in a range of petrol and diesel engines from the 1 litre base model up to the 2 litre producing 118 bhp. All components are taken from Volkswagen with the only exceptions being the 1 and 1.4 litre engines, although under-priced in comparison.
2005 saw the Fabia undergo a modest facelift along with the release of a sports model powered by the 1.2 litre High Torque Performance (HTP) engine. 2003 saw the introduction of the Fabia vRS model, the first exclusively diesel hot hatch with no petrol equivalent. Powered by a 1.9 litre turbocharged direct injection engine producing 130 bhp. Performance was impressive with 0-60 mph cited at 7.1 seconds in a test by Autocar, and efficiency as high as 65-70 mpg when driven economically. 2007 saw 1,000 special edition Fabia vRSs produced with various trim upgrades.
